About Me

Hi, I’m Liza (she/her)! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) serving individuals and couples in person in Bethesda, MD and virtually in Maryland and DC. I have 10 years of experience working with couples, individuals, and adult families.

I love being a therapist and feel honored to be part of my clients’ lives. I believe therapy is built on a strong relationship between therapist and client, and I build that relationship with warmth, compassion, humor, and open communication. I know how hard it is to feel alone in trying to make a change, and I will guide you and walk alongside you without dictating how each session will look. We will build insight into patterns and emotions, practice new ways of engaging with yourself or your partner, and build a future that feels more peaceful and aligned with your values.

I am also an AAMFT- and Maryland-approved Supervisor Candidate, and I supervise provisionally licensed therapists in their journey to become fully licensed. I have a Bachelors in Psychology from Oberlin College and a Master of Science in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland. I am a member of AAMFT and MetroMFT, and was on the board of MetroMFT, an advocacy organization for MFTs in the DC area.

My Approach

I use a mix of approaches to meet your needs, including Emotion Focused Therapy and Gottman Method with couples, and psychodynamic therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) with individuals.

My Values

As a therapist, I strive to be…

Relational

I seek to create warm, genuine relationships with my clients and believe that is the core of how therapy works. I recognize it may take time to build the safety and trust to bring your whole self to our sessions.

LGBTQIA+ Affirming

I welcome clients of all identities, backgrounds, and relationship structures.

Systemic

I recognize the impacts family, culture, and larger systems of power can have on our lives and our mental health.

Compassionate

I am always rooting for my clients from a place of empathy, care, and hope.

Respectful

I deeply respect the time, energy, and vulnerability it takes to be in therapy. I respect my clients’ lived experiences, and their commitment to therapy.

Curious

I am always learning something new, including from my clients.

Playful

Therapy doesn’t always have to be so serious! There will be moments of play, laughter, and joy in our sessions.

Strengths-Based

I make room for what you’re already doing well, where you feel strong, and what makes you and your relationship unique.
